goldenyearsbowie

some thoughts on the Golden Years of Bowie (for me, 1975-1980) though, barring the 80's , the inner & outer years are equally up for grabs. With links (look hard for them) to rare audio & footage too. Hope you enjoy.

Peace on Earth...

That may be a lost cause but Xmas is another excuse to dredge up the most bizarre coupling in contemporary Music history. Filmed in London in December 1977, the Bowie and Bing Xmas TV thingie has been a staple of many subsequent Xmas's. I don't remember any reshowing of the entire programme but Little Drummer boy is its enduring legacy. Bing had no idea who Bowie was but declared that bowie could be a "good actor". Hmmm.

CONVERSATIONS WITH BOWIE PART 2

NEW YEARS EVE 1979

On New Years eve 1979, Bowie appeared on Kenny Everetts New Years Eve programme with a video that would preface the Ashes to Ashes video some months later and that would contain some of the basic ideas that would be fleshed out for Ashes to Ashes. This acoustic version of Space oddity was not intended for release but due to a capital Radio DJ playing the tape on air and subsequent pirate distribution, the song did makes its way onto official single releases though this video has seldom been seen officially.

CONVERSATIONS WITH BOWIE

I've been getting around to archiving my many old, old (ok, OLD) cassette tapes which contain a few Bowie gems amongst others. Here's the first part of "conversations with Bowie", a programme that aired on capital radio , 14th of May 1979, I believe. Competition winners got to meet Bowie and put questions to him directly.
